RULES FOR THE AUTHORS

 

The journal publishes the results of research on the Earth’s crust and mantle composition and articles on the deep geological and distribution patterns of mineral deposits in the Pacific Ocean, marginal seas, and continental margins. It discusses the topics of stratigraphy, sedimentology, magmatic activity, and seismicity. The journal deals with problems of lithosphere and plate tectonics and offers results of neotectonic, geomorphological, geodesic, environmental, and mining studies in the Pacific region. The journal accepts theoretical, methodical, and philosophical articles covering general issues of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geoecology, and mining. The journal also publishes critical notes, comments, reviews, and chronicle.

The articles submitted to the editorial office are examined by the members of the editorial board and sent for two reviews.

The text of the article signed by all authors, drawings, tables, photographs in one copy, as well as electronic versions of these materials are sent to the Editor as separate files on disk or by e-mail. The length of the manuscript should not exceed 24 pages, including illustrations, tables, and list of references.
The style of presentation should be simple, clear, and understandable for adequate translation into English.

1. Manuscript structure

a) UDK index, title.
b) Authors’ surnames and initials; full names of institutions and their addresses.
c) Abstract in Russian and English (200– 400 words) and key words (not more than eight words).
d) Introduction; description of the research methods (if not standard), factual materials; results of the research, discussion; conclusions; and list of references.
e) Tables, figures and figure captions (on separate sheets).


2. Manuscript requirements

a) The manuscript must be typewritten with 1.5 line spacing (Times New Roman, 12pt) leaving margins on the left, with numbered pages.
b) The list of references is provided at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical and chronological (for the first author) order first in Russian then in English. For Journal articles, names and initials of authors, titles of the article and journal, city and year of publication, volume, issue, and page numbers are given. For books, specify the full title, publisher, place and year of publication, and number of pages.  References to publication in the text are given in square brackets, where the number of the publication in the List of References is indicated.
c) Indexes and degrees should be written below or above the characters.
d) Quantities and units of measure must comply with standard designations according to the International System of Units (CI).
e) All abbreviations used in the text should be deciphered.
f)  All the figures and tables should be referred to in the text.  

In connection with the publication of English versions of the articles the text should be supplemented with: English transcription of foreign proper names; Russian terms (if options exist); a list of Russian geographical names in the nominative case, from which the names of the series, formations, layers, etc. used in text are formed (for example, Olekma formation - R. Olekma, Utai series – settl. Utai)


3. Graphics

a) Drawings prepared using a computer are submitted in conventional graphics formats CDR, TIFF, or JPEG (at least 300 dpi (dot per inch), diagrams - .xls, .doc.
b) The manuscript should contain a general map in which the study area should be indicated.
c) A linear scale and orientation should be given in all figures; geographical coordinates are mandatory for maps.
d) The maximum size of a figure with a caption is 17.5 x 23.5 cm, map details should allow reduction. The recommended font in figures is Arial; font size should be no smaller than 5–6 pt and no larger than 10 pt.
e) The reverse side of each illustration should have its number, the author’s name, the paper title, and indication of the top and bottom if needed.
f) All symbols in figures should be explained in the captions.


4. Requirements for tables

a) Numeric tables of chemical, mineralogical, and other analyses should be signed by the analytics with indication of the analytical procedures and organization.
b) Tables should be no larger than 17.5 × 23.5 cm.

The following information should be included in the manuscript: full names of all authors, their   affiliations, postal addresses, phone numbers, faxes, and e-mail addresses.

The corresponding author should be specified. The authors can offer their version of manuscript translation into English prepared for publication by the Editorial Board (requirements to the translation – www.maik.ru/ru/translation).

Simultaneously, the authors should send an expert opinion and an e-mail version of the Treaty on the transfer of the author’s copyright to use the materials by the publishers.
